Revelation 12:1-2 - Constellations

"Then a great and mysterious sight appeared in the sky. There was a woman, whose dress was the sun and who had the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was soon to give birth, and the pains and suffering of childbirth made her cry out." (Revelation 12:1-2)

This is a drawing I made myself. This shows the constellations involved in Revelation 12:1-2, a vision John has of the Church undergoing persecution. For His own purposes, God has made the constellations only visible in the Northern Hemisphere (not where I live).

The woman is outlined by the greater Ursa Major constellation. Her infant baby is the star Upsilon Ursae Majoris, an F-type main-sequence star. Her hands are marked by Alkaid and the Tania stars (Mu and Nu UMa).

The constellation Corona Borealis, plus a few stars of nearby Bootes, complete the crown on her head. Contrary to popular belief, she doesn't wear the crown but rather reaches out for it, a reminder of what Jesus tells us Christians to do: "I am coming soon! Hold on to what you have so that no one takes your crown." (Revelation 3:11 GOD'S WORD)
